THE SACRED SEASON JOURNAL

What happens in a wellness coaching conversation?

A coaching conversation starts with your priorities. It is a place to notice what matters, explore manageable next steps, and decide what support feels useful—not a test of how well you are doing.

You can start with a question

You do not need a finished plan to begin. Perhaps meals feel harder to organize than they used to. Perhaps you want more breathing room in a busy week, or your familiar routines no longer fit. A useful starting point is simply: “This is what I would like to feel less alone with.” There is no need to share a diagnosis or detailed health history to ask about coaching.

Bring your real life into the conversation

A habit that looks simple on paper may be difficult around work, caring responsibilities, limited energy, or a changing schedule. Name those realities. Your preferences, budget, beliefs, and boundaries should help shape the conversation. You can also say what you do not want: a strict food rule, a spiritual practice, or another complicated routine.

Look for a next step small enough to try

Rather than redesigning every part of the week, consider one experiment. That might mean choosing an easy lunch you enjoy, making a short list before shopping, or putting a book beside your chair as a reminder to pause. The point is to learn what fits. If the step proves awkward, it can be adjusted; it is not a verdict on your commitment.

Know where coaching ends

Wellness coaching is not medical care, psychotherapy, or a substitute for advice from a licensed professional. New or persistent symptoms deserve appropriate clinical attention. A coaching conversation should not ask you to stop medication, diagnose a condition, or promise that a lifestyle change will resolve a health problem.

Questions to ask before you commit

  • What does your coaching support include, and what falls outside its scope?
  • How are sessions delivered, and what are the fees?
  • What are the cancellation and rescheduling arrangements?
  • How will my information be handled?
  • What happens if another kind of support would be more appropriate?

You deserve clear answers before agreeing to paid sessions.
